I want to setup a network mount to share a folder from my pc so I can access the files on my vu+ duo but dont know how... Do I have to enter username and password and whats fstab etc? If someone knows how to set this up or point me in the right direction of a guide that would be great.

go to your network settings
menu
setup
system
network
networkbrowser
It will scan your network and show you any shared folders
I have no password on my pc but the browser likes something so I just leave default username and password.
It will save the mount for you.
I'm assuming this is the same on the vu+ as it is on the tmtwin and dm800se.

I tried that but nothing really happens, I goto expert and not sure what type of share I need to setup. All I really want to is be able to access the movies on my pc and play them using the stb

If the networkbrowser can't find it then maybe your share isn't setup properly ?
I'm assuming the vu+ has a working network browser ?, I know it works 100% on the tmtwin and dm800se boxes.

I dont think im mounting it correctly, do I mount using fstab or engima2?

If you use the networkbrowser as above then go to the shared folder in the list that you want then click ok it is all automatic, I only rename the mount (second 1 down) on mine it's called "Local Share Name" to pc then click ok to save.
I don't touch anything else.

Once it's working go to your harddrive with telnet and go to where you recordings are and
ln -s /media/net/pc ./pc
Will make a symlink so you can get to your shared file from the hdd easily (you will of course need to change the name to pc as I wrote above).

You seem to be over complicating things.

On the Twin I can't get Network Browser connecting to anything on my network either. Must have something locked down too much.

This is how I set mine up using a Windows 7 machine on fixed IP.

On your PC setup your folder for sharing and give it a share name - keep it simple for now with no space eg. films

Then on box (assuming it's same as Twin)

Lan > MountManager > Add new network mount point

Mount using: FSTAB (mount using linux)

Active: enable

Local share name: twin-film (for example)

Mount type: CIFS share

Server IP: 192.168.0.2 (whatever your PC IP is)

Server share: /films (what you shared as on PC)

use as HDD replacement: no

Mount options: rw (or ro for read only)

Username: boris (account name on PC with share rights)

Password: blah (account names password)

Press OK and hopefully you'll get some positive response

You can then check on whether each mount has a tick or cross next to it showing whether it's working properly by going back a level and selecting Mountpoints management

Thanks that exactly what I needed to know will give it a try later or tomorrow :)

Tried and tested and so far played all the formats I want it to :)
