Vu solo or duo

The duo and solo are the same with the exeption the duo has twin tuner so in that respect the duo will be better.
If you dont require twin tuners then i suppose the solo is better as its cheaper.

with the duo you can record a channel and watch any other channel
with the solo you can record a channel and only watch an other on the same transponder/frequecy
so if you have the dosh go for Duo or Ultimo

i have both and id say the duo is better although im very happy with the solo clone also.. if you want twin tuners then go for the duo if not then get a dm800hdse, regards mdt

dont forget as well though ...with the SOLO you will need external HDD only not internal.
Where the Duo , Uno , Ultimo all have space for the HDD internal.

The Uno and Ultimo are a different ball game altogether from the Solo/Duo
They have much better specs and are faster...i would say if u only want one tuner ,, go UNO , its a great box. prolly the best i ever owned.

As Chris says ^^^^

I would say go for the best one you can afford :) they are all great boxes

Ok if i go for solo which type of USB hard drive can i connect up will self powered hard drive work ?

No, Not enough power from the solo USB to power external HDD,you will need a full size 3.5 external that you plug in usb and power in the wall ... i used a freecom 1TB External (the one with the black rubber shell)..You could also use a 3.5 caddy type thing and insert any internal 3.5 hdd into it, that too works ok .
Please be aware the price of new HDD have absolutley rocketed they are the dearest they have ever ever been.

So really should go for UNO as i already have few sata hard drives here

go for the best box you can afford but consider support and whether you require the features a perticular box has. i love my duo but i do find that image choice is a little sparse compared to DMM boxs. i also like the look of the vu solo and have been waiting for the clone version as i may give one a go to go with my duo. regards mdt

I would say a SOLO is a waste of time...it's roughly equivalent in spec to a DM800HD (non SE) apart from a SOLO cant take internal SATA drives. If you want single tuner in that respect a DM800HD or 800SE are both better options than the SOLO they have better support and more images available as well.
So if it's a VU reciever you want you should be looking at UNO for single tuner or DUO and ULTIMO for twin tuner...depends how far your budget will stretch. You can pick up a DUO clone for around £190.

makes sense yeah , but personally i way prefer the solo to the DM 800HD or SE CLONES... it much much more reliable.

Personally if it was for me I would always now go with dual tuners option which ever box it is. Works so much better if you record a programme and want to switch to another channel straight after as most record for additional 3-5mins after which means unless what you watching is on the same transponder you will have to wait. Of course this can be changed through settings but its just better to have dual tuners imo :)
