hiya, i remember reading about this somewhere but cant seem to find it, basically what im wanting to do is try going back to a lower vix image, but i remember upgrading abit ago and we had to update the bootloader, im i ok to flash a lower vix image or do i need to flash something else to it first, main reason i want to downgrade is i seem to be having abit of trouble with the box not responding and i have to turn it on and off with the switch at the back of the box, anybody let me know how i go about it ? thanks

If you flashed the latest Bootloader that allows the Use of the new kernel 3.1.1 then your stuck with using images that use that kernel you cannot go back, Just curious have you tried another image just to see if that gives you the same problems. You could always try loading Vix back on and not doing a manual update on the very last 3.1.1 image to see how that goes as well

Hiya, thanks for. Reply mate but ive been doing some reading this morning and some people say what you have said and others are saying the bootloader is backwards compatible, so im still unsure, i dont want to go a head and flash it in case it bricks the box, thnaks

no thats not correct. with Vu receivers the bootloader is fully backwards compatible with all images regardless of the kernel. so if your currently using a image like 2.3.204 which uses the 3.1.1 kernel and new Vu hardware drivers you just can just flash a older image to the receiver, however you will not be able to use any of the new hardware drivers as Vu have ceased producing them for the 2.6.xx kernel series now.

Well you learn something new everyday i actually based that answer on my Ultimo as i know this will not go back to an old image, I have tried and the box wont boot, i could not really base it on the Clone Duo as its Loader is modded but this too now lets you go back to a previous image.

Thanks for clearing it up.

To be honest i have not tried with the Ultimo yet but i have on both my Uno and Duo and both work fine regardless of the kernel version loaded.

I had a similar problem to yours Dilly with the latest vix image, after a lot of fiddling I installed the original Vu+duo image, re initialised my hard disk to remove everything off it, then did a factory reset.

Then reinstalled the latest vix again and now everything seems to be fine.

I think there was something in the changeme or read me file which says do fresh flash with the latest images. Personally not had any problems with it, did you try doing online updates?

hiya, yes ive done all the online updates i check about once a week for updates, i did read somewhere about the hard drive could be the problem so i used that convert filesystem ext3 to ext4, and i just formated my usb drive to make it ext4 as that only stores my epg data so easily done again, but to be honest since the other day when i was going to downgrade its beeen ok lol, it became unresponsive again to the point the vix logo in top left corner was just spinning and i left it for a good 10 minutes and still nothing, so i turned it off for couple of minutes and turned it back on and i got into a film so dint end up reflashing and for the last 4 days its been great, nothings changed though so im presuming its going to happen again but i hope it not, it used to do the vix logo spinning thing every other day i would say at least thats why i was looking into downgrading, but i might try what ams3521 said as im virtually caught up on all my recordings, ive only got about 7 things to watch and then il be able to format the hard drive with out losing anything, so il flash the orignal vu duo image, format hard drive, factory reset, flash latest vix image back on, when ive flashed vix image back on then is it best to start a fresh totally ? or can i load my old settings ? reason i ask is all the auto timers i have set up, i have read about backing up the auto timer xml file but ive never tried it so no idea if it works that way, thanks

Best to start afresh I'd say, I did back up my boquets etc using dbedit but still had to do a rescan of all the sats which I had to do with the new vix image anyhow previously, np's with the boquet though.

Mine was doing the same as your's with the contsant spinning vix logo and having to reboot, then lots of other niggly problems started to arise resulting in the black error screen a few times a day , these would happen randomly when i pressed any remote button, then in the end it would crash out when i tried to record anything. In the end I just started afresh and touch wood it's been solid as a rock since.

When you do it make sure you remove all usb devices apart from when flashing of course and reintroduce them once your happy the box is stable again.

By the way when i reflashed the duo with the official image, I used the latest New Image (V7.0) , thats presuming your box is an original and not a clone.
