Hi all
I am a newcomer to sat as I used to be a cable man but n3 put pay to that. So i am now looking at sat, I am looking at buying a set up for £459.00 with motorised dish. I have read this site up and down and see that things are a little bit more invouled ie Ccam and so on. All I would like to know is can I get most of the HD channels and how easy are they to set up.
I have also seen on other site that you can update the software from the box its self ???
All you input and help greatfully receved
Many thanks and keep up the good work

you would either have to have your own card or join a cs or know someone who has their own server and it would have to be an HD

card not sure if you can disscuss cs on here someone mite be able to advise, easy box to set up ,flash via usb or telnet or by vu+

util.exe takes about 5 mins ,cccam,... all depends what image you want /have most you can download via the image server

What about cs can we post or not. It looks like I will be getting this sat box all the things i read look good. And it will get the other half off my back. I will keep all upto date on how things go its just spending £450 on somthing Im not sure of.
Many thanks Nao

You can get all of the free to air hd channels.
Think that discussion of Card sharing is okay as long as it is kept to theoretical discussion.
You can pick up most of the info that you will need from reading the stickies.
The VU+ is a great box, it shares a lot of features and functionality with the dreambox, both being based on the linux system and running very similar software. So if you read something about the dreambox it will probably be the same for the VU+
Good luck with everything.
I'll try and help where I can

I am the same as you m8.

I just got my box and i am happy with it..... lots of plugins etc and can change alot on the box.

I am confused about cams and cs. I had a tm6900 and you could use patches that cleared channels but i am lost with this box.

Maybe someone could give us a clear explanation what they do can how to do it from the beggining.

I have done LOTS of reading but cant find a complete begginers guide that explains what they do and how to do it.

Hehe i know what you mean m8 :proud:

It's not really that complicated guys.
Basicly someone has a paid for card in a sat box that is connected to the internet. You the connect your sat box to the internet and ( Through a few programs ) your boxes "talk" to each other and the box with the paid for card unencrypts your box.
Thats about a plain as i can make lol
Edit
This is a good guide

Its for a dreambox but the principle is the same

Nice explanation m8, thank you.

Is that the same for cams and cs or does the cams open channels up like softcams do with my old tm6900?

We all felt like idiots when we first started so don't worry about asking anything no matter how stupid you think it might sound.
I've only been on the sat scene for a few months so i know what its like

The cam is just script that you put into the box. Its not hardware and a config is just another script that the cam can read.
If your going to be a client I.E using someone elses box to decrypt your channels your config will be VERY simple
Yes the cam decrypts the channels

How to put an image on your Vu+duo

Quick guide how to flash a VU+ Duo receiver with a USB stick. Tools required are just your favourite image and at least a 128mb memory stick formatted FAT32.

1. Format you memory stick on you PC FAT32.
2. Create a directory in called vuplus.
3. Within the the vuplus directory create another folder called duo.
4. Unzip the USB upgrade files into that directory.
5. Power off your VU+ Duo.
6. Insert memory stick into front USB slot.
7. Power on your VU+ Duo and follow the on screen instructions.
I would use the Vix image

Basic newbie setup procedure for VU+ Duo for Dummies

Ok here's a quick Newbie setup procedure for the VU+ Duo, hopefully should get you through the basic setup.

1. Unpack receiver
smile1.gif

2. Install SATA HDD if you've bought one to install.
3. Choose your image and prepare on USB stick.
4. If your using a motorised dish prepare yourself with your longitude and latitude from here http://www.dishpointer.com/
5. Connect to TV etc..
6. Follow USB flash guide.
7. Follow this install wizard on screen through choosing your resolution etc..For tuner setting see attached screenshots, set your own longitude and latitude. One screenshot if for fixed dish, other for motorised dish. Don't bother with scanning, select "no, manual scan later".

Fixed dish settings: -

8. Once setup is complete transfer your bouquets to the VU+ Duo using dreamboxedit. Enigma 2 settings/bouquets can be found here for UK only and motorised. choose which you want. I've attached a screenshot of the correct dreamboxedit settings, just change the IP to suit your receiver. This can be found in by Pressing Menu > Setup > System > Network.

Click this bar to view the full image.

8A. Once settings/bouquets have been transferred re-check your tuner setup, it sometimes changes.
9. Once all the above is completed and your watching FTA channels, you will need to initialise the HDD is you installed one, press Menu > Setup > System > Harddisk.

The above should get you watching FTA channels.

Again a big thanks to

Just going back to the cams quickly.
It is my understanding that like with the tm6900 there are some cams that can decrypt channels.
It comes down to the level of encyrption that the channel uses.
Sky u.k. is nagra 3 which Vermin switched over to. The encryption is so complicated on this that the little saftcam progarms aren't capable of breaking the encryption. So people end up cardsharing.
Some satellites - providers still use lower level encryptions which can be broken by the softcam. It is just a matter of searching round and finding the ones that can be broken and then the right softcam to do the trick. It will probably only count if you have a moveable sat dish as I can't see any on the 28.2 sat that can be done.
I have a positionable sat myself but haven't been messing around, as between being on here and work I only have a little time to actually watch it.
Hope that the above works. Will try and help when I can

I'm not sure but i think some of the 28 ones work with just the cam.
True movies does but i'm not sure if its FTA anyway
