Hi guys, can you help?

Can't get any Freesat channels

I am just setting up the following.

Have a Triax SR110 receiver, 80 cm dish (quite old) and an amstrad single LNB (was already on the dish).

Pointing toward Astra and Eurobird at 28 deg. Can pick up some FTA channels which look like they are off Eurobird. A scan picks up some sky channels also (which are encrypted, so can't see them).

What seetings for Freesat do I need?

cheers D

Where is "down south"? If it's southern Europe then 80 cm is probably too small for Astra 2D, if it's southern UK then you should get it no problem.

Edited to add: How old is "quite old" for your dish? If it is a very old dish from the analogue days you may need a new LNB.

I'm down south in UK, dish size ok. I'll do some reading on the LNB, good point

cheers

if its that old, the LNB is probably a standard one (not twin band universal like you need for digital) and the dish with these old amstrad LNBs will probably be pointing towards astra1, the old home of analogue sky, now mainly for germany/austria/swizterland and other digital broadcasts

the tuning will still all be out if this is the case, as the local oscilator of the LNB wont match either figure that the receiver expects to be coming into it

you will see encrypted sky channels, these will be from sky germany (premiere)

you need a new lnb, and either your dish re-alaigned (if its not too rusted in place) or a replacement dish

Spot on guys. After reading for a while on this the LNB is a standard one. It is marked Amstrad, also called a 'Marconi switching LNB' on one site, is has a blue cap. It only covers the 10.0 ghz L.O. range.
New quad LNB on order.

thanks for the advice

Much appreciated Darren:Clap:

your dish is also pointing at astra1 @ 19.2E instead of astra2 @ 28.2E as well m8, that dish will probably crumble if you try to unbolt it to turn it
