xbox reading disk error problem help required

ok fitted a new laser to a phillips dvd drive xbox around a month ago no problems

now a month later the box has the unknown disk error so i have replaced the laser yet again
but it still is showing the same error no matter what disk is inserted (original/back up /movie etc)

any one any ideas as to what else could e the matter
only one other thing i have noticed is that the drive will not eject is there is no disk present
ejects fine when there is a disk in it

thrashing my head now
so any ideas would be appreciated

to be honest matey i would just change the whole dvd drive
i have done laser swaps in the past and they are so arsy
some have worked some have not
i have found its just easyer to get another drive off ebay and replace the whole thing
i have got one playing up at the moment in my sons box and im just gonna get a new drive
its upto you maty but i think changing it is easyest

Hi m8
Have you tried taking the top off the drive and loading a dvd.
It could be that the tray is jamming or the dvd motor is not turning.
always try and rule out the obvious first helps to narrow down the problem.
If everything looks fine then you could always tweak the pots on the laser, but this method is a last resort as it can burnout the laser !!

before you buy a new drive try replacing the IDE cable its known to cure soooo many problems! try get a ATA100 they are supposed to make the load times quicker n speed things up.
