hi all
hope someone can help me
have two comps 1 xp pro 1 xp home
used to have them networked together, had to reformat one of them and now can't remember the way to wire them up again.
am using a belkin F5D5 131-5 network kit.
both comps connect if plugged into the modem, only one comp works if plugged into belkin, the other is recognised, but will not connect, was told by belkin that it is a modem problem, told by ntl that its a belkin problem, mmm now stuck betwen them both.
also when wired up before the set up was:-
modem- base
base- belkin
belkin- slave. was told this was the wrong way as should be:-
moden- belkin
belkin- each comp
can anyone confirm this?, am totally lost now
thanks in advance for any help

can you provide more details about the hardware you're using.

is the belkin a DSL router? etc

anyhow, assuming it is, the N*l modem should be connected to the router via the WAN port, and each pc connected to the router via lan ports. you should be using cat5 straight-thro' ethernet cables.

also the machines have to be on the same subnet as the router. do this by enabling DHCP on the router and setting your machines to get their IPs automatically from DHCP. (or setting static IPs, but DHCP maybe easier for you)

hope this helps.

zhinkler thanks for the reply, ended up trying a differant router and all ok so got myself an upgrade and all fine now
cheers
