Windows XP Service Pack 3

don't think so! the memory hog Operating System Vista better than XP !?

i think vista is a nice operating sytem but full of bugs ive tried it on three computers and all had problems from crashing to loss of internet...they were all new machines

xp with sp3 in office laptop ok

some diferences with terminal service and RDP

;)

SP3 didn't work for me! On rebooting after what appeared to be a successful install it went into a continual loop of restarting. Managed to boot up in safe mode and restored to yesterdays restore point.

Anyone got any ideas?

:Mad2:

Just thought i would add a little, if your installing SP3 its best to use the Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File located here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...CE-B5FB-4488-8C50-FE22559D164E&displaylang=en as it contains all the driver files that some PC`s seem to be missing ie...ones which have an OEM version installed, just burn the image to a disc and install it.

Now i have been updating this weekend and yet to see a problem using this install all using legit keys,

Now Geofden try this boot the computer in safe mode. Start-->run -->regedit and do these changes.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Intelppm\Start (Use regedit).

Please try setting it to 4 and boot in normal mode. (say hello to sue from me;))

If anyone gets the common error "cannot copy the atapi.sys file " do the following goto Windows\System32\drivers --> got to drivers folder. Unhide files and protected operating system files.

locate a file named " atapi " without quotes and this file might not have any extensions.

If you are able to locate the file just rename it to atapi.old and continue setup.

and finally to get rid of the security sheild icon next to your clock you can do the following goto Run and type "services.msc" without the quotes.

you can now find the security center service there, just stop the service and set it to manual...icon gone .

And for the record MS reccomends you to install SP2 before SP3...i know it souns daft buts what they state.

.

get vista a lot beeter than xp

Do you like all the pretty icons and stuff, coz apart from that Vista is shit.

I had trouble with the SP3 Beta (wireless network went crazy and I couldn't repair it) but the final release is perfect :)

Does anyone know if there are any major fixes/improvements in SP3 as I find it a little slower than SP2 (start-up)? Not sure whether I should just uninstall it and leave it wit SP2?

got a copy of xp with sp3 integrated all seems fine as well

Updated SP3 today with ISO on CD Method and had a few issues with it wiping out my Live Messenger User Names and reloading it 1st time I used it, but that s ok now.

Also had problem with windows update after and discover it had taken out my trusted download sites in IE7 but did the recommended fix Option 1 which cleared that and now all seems ok.

The problem identified and fix are as follows:

When accessing the Update site, you receive the 0x80072EE2 or 0x80072EFD error.

Resolution1
1. A misconfigured Proxy/Firewall can cause this problem. Double-check the Proxy/Firewall settings.
Add the following urls to the exception list within your Firewall/Proxy:
http://*.update.microsoft.com
https://*.update.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com
For help configuring Proxy/Firewall refer to documentation or contact the manufacturer.

Resolution 2
1. Add the following Trusted Sites:
Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab.
Click the Trusted sites icon.
Click the Sites button.
Clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
Use the Add button next to the Add this Web site to the zone box to add the following sites:
http://*.update.microsoft.com
https://*.update.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

Click OK.

There's MS for you!!!! lol

gonna give sp3 a go i stopped being bothered about my pc with xp on as my laptop has vista which i've got used to now but sp3 might fix a few things

Well tried putting it on another PC yestreday and what a nightmare it has turned out to be. Seems the problems are different between Pro, Home and Media Centre versions of XP. Its even different between ISO or download methods.

MS seem to have dropeed a huge one this time.

Hi
I have tried the SP3 with no joy
I have XP pro with WGA
Install seemed fine but you have to reboot at the end of it (45 mi+)
Now the comp is stuck in a loop
I dont even get as far as the windows screen with the rolling bar
Cant get to safe mode
If said drive is set to slave you can access it but thats all
Tried every fix i can think of no joy

sp3 scewed my pc up for a time needed to reboot 4 times

How did you fix?????

How did you get in safe mode????? Cos that would be a good start

to get into safe mode just keep hold of power button until it shuts off when you see xp logo loading.....there is another method using the keys cant remember though.

:roflmao:
Cant do that
It loops before the windows logo
But i do get the countdown to enter the safemode but 5 sec later the loop
The button if i rem is F5 or maybe F8 but that wont help

I put sp3 on the other day.... then took it off again .

I stream my movies etc to my 360 no issue at all with sp2 but with sp3 it would stream ok then after turning off xbox and back on again it was like the pc had lost the settings etc only way to get it to see my 360 was to either do the network setup again but same happened or reboot...

Went back to sp2 and voila all is well again!!!

Don't think the disk can help. The other issue is it seems that all pre xp3 updates have gone from windows update site, as all the site wants to do is update to xp3.

As I said I have one pc with xp3 on it that went like a dream but another had a problem part ways through and xp3 had been partialy installed, it could be seen in add remove progs. The pc would boot but whenever I tried to go to internet it would crash. Tried to remove the partial xp3 and add remove progs said it could'nt find it as it did not exist.

Microsoft have caused mayhem with this and they know it and are keeping a low profile as far as I can see. The did put a stop to the mass distribution, albeit after the horse had bolted. Even ther site for remedies have so many methods to fix, none of them work, its beyond a joke.
