...keeps crashing on me every time i try and play music. now i thought if i download the install software from microsoft i could reinstall it, however it says i have have a higher version than that from MS!!!! I cant see it on my program list to uninstall and reinstall.

try this m8 to uninstall it then reinstall it again see if that fixes your problem

It's happened after I've upgraded to Windows 8.1! I'll take a look see at it tmrw.
