Wiiu minus gamepad

Just rec wiiu of bay dont know what the firmware is as i thought i could use the wii controller.
Does anyone know how to get the wii controller to work on wiiu.
The wii controller turns on and off but i get a mess saying you need wii gamepad.

Already done that dave but it only turns wiiu off and on.
Im hoping there might be a setting if i lend a game pad and set it up not to use gamepad.

you may be right , reading around the wii u usually comes bundled with a gamepad , so it may be a idea either see if someone has one or find a cheap one somewere

If you're trying to get through setup, I'm pretty sure you HAVE to have a gamepad for that bit.
