Political correctness gone too far (in my humble opinion).

I bought some fence preserver the other
day...(wickes own brand)...dark brown.
Had to go back for some more and was told it
was the last one,it's now been renamed to
Chestnut Brown...
The assistant told me that the name dark
brown could be percieved as racist?
I asked him if they sell polish (sounds like
them chappies from poland),and are they doing
anything about white gloss!!... was met with a blank stare..
Not to mention the inflatable sheep in the corner, should a certain moderator of ill repute take offence..:)

FFS, if people get offended because somethings called black sommat or brown sommat, then what a fkin sad pathetic individual they are, if life is that bad that stuff like that gets you down, do the world a favour, and throw yourself under a fast train or off a high building

just please dont leave any mess that could offend anyone thats red, white, yellow or brown

this is a joke, i wasn't going to post here at first, but after reading it, i have to say something.

the world we live in now is a complete joke, we can't have christmas lights, as they are now fairy lights, we cant have thick irish sausages, as irish may take offence, we can't have paint colours now etc....

i could go on and on, but then this would end up in the rant room.

I think the story about the irish sausage comes from here:

The Yorkshire spokesman for the Campaign Against Political Correctness made his maiden speech in Parliament yesterday - starting as he means to go on. Philip Davies, the newly elected MP for Shipley said, "Before entering Parliament, I worked for the supermarket chain Asda in customer service and marketing. It provided the best possible grounding for a politician because I met so many people from so many backgrounds. Whoever said "the customer is always right" never worked for Asda. I encountered the customer who accused us of being racist towards Irish people, because we sold "thick Irish sausages". Trying to persuade her that "thick" related to the sausages and not to the Irish was beyond me. Hon. Members should therefore understand why I will campaign hard against the blight of political correctness, which is doing so much damage to our country. [Hon. Members: "Hear, hear."]".

This is the one in question
http://www.wickes.co.uk/Shed+Fence/Shed-and-Fence-Timbercare/invt/600232

maybe they still have some of the other left to sell off..
Only going on what i was told...
just looked at your link Bob, and if you enlarge the pic, it does say 'dark brown' but if you look at description next to it it says 'chestnut brown'

so i wonder if the paint brushes are allowed to use horse hair, or is that not allowed anymore, as ponies may take offence.

That's correct Highlander,,the pics say dark brown, but the products are different in store.

Talking about ponies...My little pony is being renamed my height challenged pony...

EDIT: i was joking about the pony...but i'm sure it won't be long...

I fail to see how dark brown could be taken as racist by anyone.

Have you considered writing to the company to see if this is true? Or to see if this is how they would like their retail staff to respond to questions from the public?

To be honest with you, I dont think the rename is really anything to do with racism or political correctness, it might just have been something told to the sales assistants to say to customers or something they might have just said to you, just because they felt like it, lol...

I dont think Dark Brown, is a very accurate description to be honest with you... and it makes sense to compare a colour to something that people would be able to match the item to... For example if your painting a bench and you want it to look a chestnut colour then, chestnut brown would be a more accurate description... I dont really think this has anything to do with political correctness, people just take the political correctness term and blow it out of proportion... Dark brown isnt a very good description for paint dye because my idea of dark brown isnt probably going to be the same as every ones... Our flooring is Cherry, calling it Yellowy Orangey Red on the box wouldnt really be the same thing would it :)
