Pinkhelmets suggested I post on this topic.

There are a number of reasons why I don't have sat. tv, one of the major ones is that I can't afford it.

Cable: no cable in my village.

Until I bought my freeview box I had four channels now I have a lot more at no significant extra cost.

I can't see any downside.

Ok so some people still don't receive it but that will be sorted before too long. Yes there are some rubbish channels but they will only survive if people watch them.

Over the last year or so the freeview channel lineup has steadily improved and hopefully will get better and better.

yep freeview is most definitely better than just 4 (stroke 5) analogue channels. And dont forget you get E4 and More4 as a bonus without any subscription.

What other bonus's would make you choose freeview as your option peeple? Any comments? How about price, its only around 30 quid for the box isnt it?

i rekon sky one is a must. Theres always summit to watch on there. How long will e4 and similar channels be available for free on freeview?

All i would need is one good sports channel, one good movie channel one modern comedy channel and thats enough. I onlt get to watch the tele in the late evenings so i guess thats my evening filled when necessary.

I survived 12 months without a sniff of tele a few years ago and it did me no harm, although i went through my dvd collection quite rapidly. LOL

Freeview sounds like a good option for only £30.00

I bought a freeview box for the bedroom, mainly for Ch5 and E4.
I have Sly downstairs on the £20 package and the channel that is most watched is UK Gold, (Dinnerladies is on again at the moment), something I could even receive via Top-up TV for a damn sight less.
The Freeview line-up is steadily improving and I don't think it will be too long before the Sly box gets the heave-ho.

Sky Freeview is good for the above reasons.. but it in my opinion is good if you dont want to pay £20 - £30 0r more to watch what you watch in the living in the kitchen.. Having this in the kitchen is a must in my household.. if its not there i get a kick in off the mrs :)

Its also good for kids rooms.. although cable is in my area sky is safer than a hacked cable box.. imho.. Specialy the open pron channels :)

I have freeview in me bedroom with the old on-digi phillips box and just brought a toshiba tv with built in free-view and i love it............. loads of channels for free and they aint all that bad :)

and you're getting true anamorphic widescreen on the main channels as well.

cant see where u can go wrong with freeview, loads of free channels with option of some sub channels for a starting price of £30
who could moan :)

can anyone put a list here of the available free channels on freeview plus the additional ones available with Top-up Tv, please? Cut & paste will do :).

Freeview will really take off once these dodgy manufacturers have finished selling of their analog sets. I'm sure I'm right in saying that the amount of countries still transmitting in analog far out-way the countries transmitting terrestrial dvb.

But imagine in a few years time when there are loads more freeview channels plus a tv with built in freeview + hard recorder. For me what makes freeview is the 7 day epg, so with a hard disk it makes it a powerful tool.

I've had my eye open for a DVD recorder with built in hard disk + freewview tuner for a while. I only saw one recently (£400 - they can keep it).
I also saw somewhere that sky wont transmit on freeview until post 2008, boo, bring that date forward.
