Why can't I record VOD? What protection is used?

Why can't I record VOD? What protection is used? At the moment with Virgin giving us free access to all the comedy series like "shameless" I would like to grab them and write them to dvd using my hard drive/DVD recorder however keep getting error messages. "You cannot record this program"

Methinks my samsung NTL box is putting out some kind of Macrovision signal that my DVD recorder doesnt like.

Is there a way to circumvent the protection.

Yes m8 it is Macrovision and a few of the guys have bought a Macrovision remover from Maplins to get round it
