Freesat is a brand and really refers to software/epg on the box. You cannot get the freesat epg software on any other box other than a freesat receiver.
The channels themselves that broadcast free-to-air you will be able to get on a Darkbox. So bbc-hd and itv-hd will work, and with a freesatFS card you will also get ch4-hd.
Hope that helps.

ThanX m8 that does help, is the darkbox the one to go for or is there any other on the market that does the same thing but cheaper.

The darkbox is a low budget receiver with some decent functions. The tm-6900 is the comparable option but it is around 30~40 pound dearer although the technomate does have built in freeview tuner too.
Any alternative cheaper HD receivers have less function in some way, so the Darkbox suits many. It doesnt suit those who are looking for Freesat simplicity, as its aimed for those who want multi-satellite.
Regards :)

think Il buy myself a copy :) cheers DD
