Think the problem is the box itself I have 2 vu zeros one works perfectly the other will not connect using the same WiFi cable

Look in Menu/setup/Time

And set it to transponder time as Johnmm said.

What do you mean by wifi cable ? Why not just purchase a usb wifi adapter ?

PLI 8.1 allows users to pick whether to sync time from net or transponder. If on older PLI image, install system time plugin which will give option.
