I just wish someone had told me that visa is fookin
Ccccccccccccrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaapppp
New laptop or pc with visa should have a warning on it saying vista will
Not support your software that you run on windows XP
so after years of buying & receiving different software ie photo suite programs
games ect ect ect vista will not recognise them what a load of fookin shite
sorriest thing I have purchased in a long time

My advice is leave it with Vista on, but run a Windows XP virtual machine (using something like virtual box) to run any incompatible or old programs.

Converting Vista to XP can be a pain in the arse, especially with laptops. I've come across some that are dedicated to Vista only and do not have XP drivers on the manufacturers website.

I have been able to change these laptops to XP, but they take a hell of a long time to find all the drivers.

in my personal experience, I havent had many problems with vista.

The biggest issue I had was a web cam didnt have drivers for it, but thats not the fault of MS.

Is all subjective of course. But what will happen next year when Windows 7 is released? Are you going to stick with XP then?

I certainly will be sticking with XP until they iron most of the bugs out of Windows 7. If its a power hungry beast like Vista then it wont be near my laptop. Vista looks good but a transformation pack sorts that issue out, otherwise what exactly does Vista do better than XP. It is personal choice and my choice is XP.

indeed - it is a personal choice. But what about when XP stops being supported?

Think about this, Win2K was a fine OS, couldnt fault it. But it was just XP with a different gui experience (more or less). However, Win2K cant get you onto a wlan that uses WPA, XP can though.

I wonder how many subtle differences there really are between Vista and XP like that? And will this be more prominent between XP and Windows 7?

A lot seem to shear my views that visa is crap
When I purchased the laptop I didn’t go in the with vista windows XP
Or windows 98 on my mind or thinking I should ask DW i just wanted a decent laptop but where told that oh you need vista now as Xp will be a thing of the passed and things will not run soon on XP plus we don’t have many laptops with XP and so on and on ??? but if she would have said most of your
programs will not run on vista!!! I would have told them to stick it and gone for XP
typical of Pc world have been back in to Pcw they said oohhhh it would cost a lot to
change to XP mmmmmmmmm crap

is it unrealistic for us to expect places like PC World to be able to tell us if all our existing applications will work under Vista?

I know when I made the change, I checked to see if everything I currently used and wanted to keep would work...

Remember Windows ME? That's how I see Vista, a poor excuse for an operating system.

Vista was never long term from the start? As soon as it was released they started talking about Vienna (Windows 7).

Just MS ripping off the consumers............AGAIN!

Everybody to their own though!

Which photo software isn't working?

I've got JASC Paintshop Pro 9 (the last one before it became Corel PSP) working on my Vista PC, installed without even having to resort to compatability mode. Got GIMP on there too.

Windows ME (malfunctioning edition)........:proud:

I agree with you Cliff, Vista is a stop gap and was probably released because Apple had stuff on the go aswell and they didnt want to lose out. If they thought it was any good then the would perservere like they did with XP, remember that had loads of issues when it came out but they worked with it.

My daugters dont like Vista and their laptops now have XP on them, whereas my son really likes Vista...personal choices again.

WinME was Windows 98SE with a face lift.

Microsoft didn't have anything real to offer the public over the Millenium period so they tinkered with Win98 and cashed in on it by claiming it was a'Millenium Edition', ohhh fancy! I never had a single issue with WinME. :)

Vista on the otherhand, jeeezuz, pile of wank.

It's pretty but I can get the same effects on XP using the appropriate addons.

Ive been running vista for about 1 year now without hardly any probs at all, you wont really get any probs unless maybe your plugging in golden oldie equipment or summit, you might not get vista drivers for such things, but apart from that you shouldnt have any probs.

I only had one problem and that was an old tv card i had that was good few years old, vista didnt have a driver for that, so i just binned the tv card as it was practically worthless anyways.

In my opinion its vista all the way

Have you tried installing in compatibility mode and/or using 'run as administrator'?

I found the best approach was to have Vista and XP setup as dual boot then you can benefit from both worlds. The fact that vista is merely a stop gap really does encourage piracy.

Compatibilty issues are not the main reasons I hated Vista because I always got my software to work...what bugs me is that it uses my lappy battery to quick, maybe thats why my son doesnt have any issues because he uses a desktop and the rest of us use laptops. I noticed a huge difference when I went back to XP. It wont matter in a few years when 7 comes out as most people using Vista will want to try 7.

My old work laptop used vista and the batter life was great? Possibly it could have been down to the power profile I was using or the battery capacity though?

Also, isnt Windows 7 due next year (with no slippage). I guess this may be a better windows as this will be the second OS they have created whilst conforming to their regulators (after the antitrust case).

It was crap on my daugters 9 cell battery aswell so she also wanted it back to XP. You may be right about 7 coming out next year but it may be 2 years before you would go near it....:proud:
