Hats off to the designers of that Pendolino train also. There would probably have been many more casualties and fatalities with an older design going down an embankment like that. It was built for safety and it worked.
There was a big thing on news night about the design of the train. The front carriage where the driver is spun 180 degrees and ended up further away from its joint carriage than any of the others. It nearly ended up at the back. Yet the train suffered no structural collapse. Or anything close to that.
