I would love to answer that in a way i really thought @chookey
You say “why would UK give a shit”?

They give a shit when in other parts of the world that have oil mate, and its an irish interest when weapons supplied by British state kills irish people.
Only this last week the police lost a high court order to imprison two reporters, reason being...
THEY EXPOSED THAT THE POLICE WERE SUPPLYING WEAPONS TO LOYALIST THUGS TO MURDER INNOCENT IRISH FOLKS.
(british guns)

Funny enough my IP*V supplier put it on the server last year when the RUC/POLICE tried to ban it.
Its called.

So @chookey “why would UK give a shit”?
Its there guns that still murder people in this island. Just like many other nations the UK invaded and got resistance.

It really is different air that those inhale in mainland compared NI.
(very tunnel vision)

Without excusing ignorance in the text as “dont give a shit”.......
Getting back on track with NI and brexit, i can only speak from my experience and as i travel over the border often. NI is really behind the times!!! The UK are way ahead as the south of ireland. Ireland is a “very” socialist country and not really a capitalised state. Thats why the EU bailed them out years ago in trouble and ireland is now one of the most expensive places to buy property in europe as the place cant get the workers enough.
The down side to this is greedy business men come in and snap it up and leave the working class struggling.
(just like london)

I seen it asked about brexit and ireland!
Tonight i seen former prime minister John Major almost crying knowing what this could cause to a generation.
The same generation i seen family being buried with photos and watches as there was nothing left of them.
(and 3000 other people)!!!

I do agree, the reason NI voted to stay was for two reasons.
EU
Open borders.

If you do not open your door to your neighbour/friends.
(you will be lonely)

Work.... Where else?
@river4ever I also believe the IRA were buying guns from Columbia? Weren't a few of them caught there or something and imprisoned. And lets not forget that the IRA weren't saints either, quite a few of their bombings caused injuries to innocent parties. It's one thing targeting military/police, it's another thing just bombing pubs and killing innocents.

The whole brexit debacle is comical, especially in my own country of Wales, we've struggled to get money from Westminster, yet my bretherin vote to leave, as they don't want immigrants :/ It's only because of the EU money that Wales has some of the things it has. There has been massive regeneration from EU money, but that's all forgotten by those who've had the money and regeneration, and now want some semblance of sovereignty back.

I very much doubt there will a united Ireland in my lifetime, and probably not within my childrens life times either. There is just too much anger on both sides, be it Sinn Fein, UDP, UFF whatever your flavour of ideology, until people accept that they need to work together to make things better then it will continue to get worse.

The good friday agreement was one of the best things to ever happen to NI, and now that's at risk due to the new ira/real ira/whatever they're calling themselves this week ira, and the ignorance of the UDP.

The reason Southern Ireland is so prosperous atm, is due to tech industry, the massive grants they get, the lack of corporation tax, they're heavily investing there because of that. If that changes, then Ireland would be sunk, it's already happening in Wales (Ford/TATA/Sony/Fujitsu) to name but a few of the companies that are pulling out their operations.

Im certainly not going to go into details on what/where/when weapons were delivered to them. Google may help on that area.
With reference to Columbia your back to front, as they were arrested after the ceasefire. Although the IRA have contacts in:
USA
spain (basque)
Libya
Canada
Argentina

Most people suspect the IRA were training FARC. no one will ever know.
Still to this day they escaped from prison and got on a plane home.
😂

I also agree with what you say about Ireland booming mate. Thats where apple, microsoft and many many other tech giants use there EU trade as there HQ.
Due to TAX.

PM sent.

All this "have to" what are they you going do if you don't ?, send in the EU troops to erect a border ? fine them ? impose a goods ban ?.
Look, the EU is like a slowly dissolving tablet soon to be gone forever. Once we leave and we show the rest of the countries how better off you can be the people will request a referendum left right and centre.
As my Grandad use to preach to me and it's done me in good stead:-
"To know what's at the bottom of the cliff you have to go to the edge and take a look".
There was a program on the other night were they interviewed a UK company who make beds. The owner was saying how he has spent £250,000 stock piling for when we leave as he gets say the wool from Latvia and springs from Poland etc and how leaving the EU "might" (I stress might) cause him not to be able to get the stock.
What the film failed to highlight in the interview is those countries and companies in the EU who sell to him 3 will suffer more than him.

It would be far far easier for the owner of the bed company to source out non EU materials than it would be for those 3 EU companies to find new customers in such a highly competitive market we live in. The buyer will always hold the power. The one thing UK people are renowned for is, we hate change to routines, upheaval, something new, it spoils life's daily routines. The sheer thought of a steady eddy ship having to change course makes some fill their undies in fear of the "what if" monster.
If you want to live your life in fear of the what if and the bogey man under the bed then do so. Me?, I'm glad Boris is in charge and I just hope he takes us out this pile of horse sh*t they call the EU.
EU are nothing but playground bullies who've spat their dummies out,
Bless

Do you really think that the Irish government wants the problem of dealing with all of those troublesome Unionists in the north? It has always been easy for them to pay lipservice to the ideal of unity while there was no real prospect of it but, if it looks likely in the near future, they will be in a state of panic.
