About 12 months ago i fitted a magic 3.1 chip for a m8 of mine in the process i had to remove a chip fitted by his dad months previous when i took the chip off the ribbon for the reset/eject it broke and would only work dissasembled. So as he was due to go back to university he took it to a shop for a new ribbon when he went to collect it they showed it working etc. But they had not put the screws back so the guy put all the screws back and off they went, only prob he had put a screw through the new ribbon and on power up popped the psu when he eventualy got it back off them they told him to get rid quick while it still worked. Now it only plays cd's not dvd's is this down to the laser or coould it be some other cause

That is a good sign of the laser being faulty; 'No Disc' errors with DVDs but CDs play.
