Half way up a mountain, middle of nowhere. I've se
ive been playing with a TM-Mini, and, i like it [IMG]

Not much bigger than an iPod, and less than an inch thick, this is one of those receivers that gets thrown behind the telly, or stuck to the back of it using a sticky pad.

the whole box that it all come in, is tiny, its the same size as a Wii console, and this contains everything. the box contins the receiver itself (which is minute) a power supply, a short HDMI lead (gold plated), an AV lead, a basic instruction pamphlet, and, this is one of the things i thought was brill, 2, yes TWO remote controls. one 'normal' remote, with all the menu and coloured buttons etc, but, what i likes best, was a little 'stubby' remote, for all the basic functions.

im mega impressed with this box, and ive not even plugged it in yet [IMG]

plug it all in, and go through the setup process, which quickly gets boring, so i download a patch for it, and start again, i then setup a fixed dish connection, and set it scanning. there is a blind scan option, but i ignore that for now. astra2 is fully scanned in 4 mins and 4 seconds, i have a quick play with youtube and some of the other features, then i enter the details to access my own personal test card server, and it clears straight away

for a first impression, this receiver has peaked my interest, especially as it says on the packaging that it plays media files, so this makes me think it may access network storage and become a media client as well, and with up to 1080p output

And for less than £70

after having a bit more of a play, im getting to like this little box even more

it has blind scan
it has softcam capabilities
it holds 198 BISS keys
it plays a shed load of video formats
it plays music
it shows pictures
it will hold 40 different server lines
it can use WiFi USB dongles
it can use 3G USB dongles
it can be hidden behind the telly, as it also comes with a magic eye

Is it THAT good that I should change my recently acquired TM5402HD M2 in exchange for one?

i dont know about an exchange tbh m8, as a receiver, itll depend on what you want from them, apart from the blind scan it lists, i dont think itll give you any extra features over the 5402, unless you need 5x more BISS keys storage, as id assume you already have your 5402 network connected, so the wifi (which needs an additional usb dongle) feature wouldnt really benefit you

it runs cccam and mgcamd lines with no problems once patched, but, so does the 5402

as a receiver being bought, i may suggest one instead of a 5402, but, i dont think i could honestly say it would be better than a 5402 to replace it m8

if that makes sense :p

i also have a 5402 in case anyones wondering

Thanks for that mate - I suppose that was what I'd been hoping to hear really - and I'm sure Phantom's next batch of patches will help address many of the outstanding issues left on my TM5402HD, espec now he's had good experiences reported back to him with the F3/5 latest patch, some of which he should be able to incorporate into other units new patches very soon too?

What exactly are the outstanding issues on the TM5402.
I have both versions mk1 and mk2.
As for the mini, it's a clone of a clone.
Great value for money but not a replacement for the tm5402, more of a take anywhere stb.

I know it's a year old thread, but where do we get firmware updates for it?

Just been given one to play with.

Are there any hidden menus etc?

Okay just found a Phantompatch for it on the Technomate forum, how is it flashed? Does it need adddon_002p?

Any pointers would be helpful.

So maybe dantis DOES need the Add-on for this box to enable his 8280 option?
He didn't say what his 8281 gave him, so assume it was nothing?
Just suggesting as he hasn't yet reported back? lol!!
