Hello all,

Here we go .......

Popped to see My famiely as we live upteen miles away and I hardly ever see My Nephew. Well We went to the Westfields Shopping Center and as a treat payed for Lunch etc.

Well Thinking it'll be nice to get some photo's of My nephew I got My satio out and took a picture with a shot of My Daughter, Nephew and Brother.

Well the next thing I know is the world went dark and a voice from no where
Said " May I please warn you that taking a picture in a public area is a criminal offence!"

Well only being 5' 6" tall turned round to see I was surrounded by some huge gorilla looking security staff and that smell of shit has probly came out of My arse.
But being a no nonsence guy I calmly said " When was it made Illegal? "

To which the response was " Listern shorty! " , " We didn't ask for any cheek, So be a good little boy and put your phone away. Otherwise it will be confiscated."

Well as all vertically challenged short tempered people know ! That is not the way to speak to anyone, Let alone to someone who is short. Then patronising Me infront of My Daughter and Nephew.

If it wasn't for the fact I didn't want to more than likely end up sharing a hostpital ward with some banana smuggling apes, Also upsetting My Daughter.
I said " Firstly MR Steriods 2010, I'm not a Boy, and certainly no a good one. I'm an Mature Adult out with My Famiely. Secondly what are camras on a phone for? I'm sure it's not to an add-on that should never be used. Thirdly were are the signs that say " No photography to be taken in this building" ?
Also lastly but not least...... Who the **** are you to interupt a famiely gathering with your little buddy's to come and intimidate someone while theres children about? "

I then was told that Taking picture's is Illegal for obvious reasons! On which I asked " What are they?", The response was ......" Its obvious ".

Now I may sound like I'm being thick but what is obvious for one person is hidden away for another.
I understand the whole PC Brigade that this country has become. But for **** sake I was taking pictures of My famiely. It's not like I'm an al qaedan doing re-con to blow the place up. I know I have a Tan ..... But that just takes the biscuit.
My brother just grabbed Me and said "Come on! Lets go!" " I persumed there jelouse that the can't get a girl pregnant due to the steriods there taking."
Which made Me chuckle.

But there was no need for them to speak to me the way they did.

So I thought I'll set My prioties out and Message this rant before I send Westfield an snotty letter.

Sorry If I'm just rabbiting on.

Deus

P.S Also My bloody Tomatoes looked like they had died due to the heat. Stupid weatherman. He said Its going to rain hence not watering them this Morning. Grrrrrrrrrrr

What has PC done to our way of life? Did you get their names? You should have gone to see their supervisor. Good thing you're gonna write to them. Maybe you should write to a newspaper as well?

Such a shame to see a good family day out ruined

i have noticed a lot or most places don't allow you to take pics or video anymore in public places it works both ways its bad for us genuine people trying to capture a family doo but there is always some sick weirdo out there that wants it for there sick pleasure ..i know its a sad world we live in now.

You should have asked to speak to his manager and then kicked off big style. There is no way someone would humiliate me like that in front of my family.

It is not and never has been illegal to take photographs, however taking photos of other peoples children is a no no unless the children are obvioulsy in the group with you.

Also on that note you, they are filming you so they should have sme nice security footage if you need time and date etc its on the pic you took ;)

just spoke to the wife about this, she said this topic was on a morning TV program its not Illegal, they just dont like you doing it since all those bombs went off, sounds to me like the security guards took this a lillte to far.

If you watch road wars etc, when the people are asking why the cameras, the police say that they're allowed to film in public

i would have takin his pic. See how he like that.

By the sounds of the thug deusevil would have ended up with a camera embeded in his arse.

Ok if you were not supposed to taking photos there should have been notices to that effect and the security twat should have been polite and asked you to not take them. I would report the fooker and contact the Sun or Star they like that kinda story.

Good point!

As you were on private property and he was acting as an agent of the owner, he can ask you to stop taking photographs and escort you from the premises.

As far as I'm aware though, had he confiscated the camera it could be argued as an act of theft, and theft with threat is technically mugging. Had he arrested you under section 24A of the PACE Act 1984, it would have been unlawful.

However, as Napster's wife says, it's not illegal. Here is the Met's guidance on photography with regards to the Terrorism Act 2000: Metropolitan Police Service - About the Met - Photography advice.

Unfortunately, this guidance hasn't filtered down to all front line officers, so a "rent-a-cop" is even less likely to know. Also, outside of public disorder offences, it is not an offence to take photographs of crowds or individuals either - though to take photos of people in a professional capacity there are instances when you'll need a model release form...

yeah as above, its not illegal to take photos in public, never has and never will, most they could do is ask you to leave the premises, but thats it. i would of argued the point and took it all the way personally but thats just me. When you write to his manager make sure you tell them that there staff need retraining and that you are informing the press.

he was obviously employed for his size rather than size of brain.

This happened to a friend of mine who was taking a picture of his children on the activity centre at a local pub/restaurant.

He was told that it was a criminal offence under the sex offenders section to photograph children in a public place where other children could be captured in the shot.

This is the level paedophiles have brought this country down to.

Must agree though there is a way of explaining the situation to you in a professional manner and not be bully beefing.

I'd put a complaint in to the establishment and ask why no signs are published to warn people of the problem, and why the door persons are not professional in the manner in which they treat paying customers who also pay there wages.

As far as I can find out, also not illegal.

However, assuming he was asked by an agent of the property owner not to take photographs, then any implied right of photography would have been removed. (Even if the method of asking may well have involved untruths.)

If asked by another member of the public, the situation risks getting out of hand depending on how the photographer take it and reacts. It could be construed as a quasi-polite way of saying "don't take photos of my kids", but it could also be taken several other ways, including as a thinly vailed accusation...

Thankyou Everyone for the Helpful tips etc,

I'm still abit furious how I was treated and before I write to the News Papers and Westfields I will install a spell checker. :)

I remember running around in My boxers in the garden or Swimming at My local park. But if you try that now ( If your in your 20's+ You'll get arrested for indecent exposer :p ) You have no chance at all!

Like in Markeaton Park in Derby. They had a brill pool with fountains you can climb on etc and now its hardly used. The fountains are gone and replaced with cone shaped things. My Parents have loads of pics while we played there as kids. Do that now and your lucky your not arrested or escorted off the park.

I know there are some real sicko's out there but there an minority. But it ruins it for all of us parents who want to be able to catch them special moments. Or even show how we lived when they were small etc.

Grrr I can go on for hours but My tea is ready.

From my understanding, if a private place such as a shopping centre has open access by the public then public rights apply. I was told this by a cop when I was teaching my 15 year mate son to drive in tesco car park.

So unless the shopping centre has signs to say no photography then you are within your rights. There is more information here,

OK, read the legal mumbo jumbo and it says that privacy rights for kids extend to public places so in theory I guess rent a cop might have a case though he was not very polite by the sounds of it.
