"Sorrow" sung by Bowie. Can anyone remember who did the original version?

Words and music by Feldman/Goldstein/Gottehrer (originally performed by The Merseys). - Originally called The Merseybeats.

Lyrics

With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you was sorrow
Sorrow
You acted funny trying to spend my money
You're out there playing your high class games of sorrow
Sorrow
You never do what you know you oughta
Something tells me you're a Devil's daughter
Sorrow, sorrow
Ahhhh, ah, ahhhh
I tried to find her
'Cause I can't resist her
(I tried to find her)
I never knew just how much I missed her
Sorrow
Sorrow
With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you was sorrow
Sorrow
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh
With your long blonde hair I couldn't sleep last night
With your long blonde hair

Yes they did. Thanks for the replies. I followed up on them and found that the original recording was by The McCoys'(remember "Hang on Sloopy") as a 'B' side in 1965. The Merseys recorded it in 1966.

yes but...

Sloopy lived in a very bad side of town
And everybody yeah tried to put my Sloopy down.

:)

Probably about 40 years since I heard that, and still tucked away in the memory.

That's because it was worth remembering, but don't get me started or I'll go into old fart mode.
