Hey,

Im wondering if there any good software guys on the forum who may be able to extract keys out of a piece of software. Basically I want to install it on another machine without purchase another license.

I suppose it depends on the protection it uses. If you don't have the original key it might be in the registry or there might be a hashed value or something like that which won't be of much use.

Can you virtualise the machine using VMWare? The software might work like that and it might also be worth trying to devirtualise it onto real hardware.

The software might be able to tell it's on a VM though. It also might be able to check what hardware it was activated on.

Worth trying though :).

It gets a hardware ID which then the supplier give out the Name and access key. I assume he adds that to his database for entry?

@fus10n Could you post it up for me mate? That would be great! ;)

The supplier gives me the setup disk. Once run it gives me a hardware ID which then I give back to the supplier before he supplies me with a name and key. Posted the picture above.

I have a key that I use but would like to take it home with me too without having to purchase again.

OK got SIW installed....The software is a portable exe so nothing installs. Are they harder to crack?

The application generates a unique hardware ID from the PC components when it runs. It must store it somewhere if it is a portable, .ini file or registry.

The vendor takes that ID (probably hashed with the name) and generates a key using it. The application can calculate if the key is valid.

I'd either look for a pre-twiddled version or try to spoof hardware ID of the machine it was installed on. They can be generated in many ways though.

im struggling. Ive tried intercepting the traffic and using SAE. both fails.

I been trying to find where it gets the ID from. I could then spoof it with the ID of the machine thats got it installed.

Might be easier if you tell us the software your on about....

It's maybe getting it from the registry or creating it each time it runs. If you use Process Explorer it might show what the program accesses when it runs but it will be complicated as it might be a process accessing DLLs.

Can you set up remote desktop and use it like that?

Have you looked for a cracked Keygen are a serial key ect ?

ive bit the bullet and asked for a licence, its not that much but would have been good to learn the theory behind it.

Im back at work Monday so ill have another go.
