Price increase

Subscription prices will be increasing slightly from 1st September, by 1 or 2 pounds depending on your package.
Full package with HD will be £57 per month
Sky World (Sports & Movies inc) £47 per month
Sports World £40 per month
Movies World £38/m (no price increase here)
Mixes only, increase by £1 >> £17~£22

So with setanta added its a cool £70 per month

no wonder people choose "other" satellites ;)

Cheers

£57 for a tv subscription is diabolical.

I'm proud that I steal it.

Cardsharing is the future.

....whats Sky's profit per year ? anyone know...
The gross revenue runs about 3.7 billion at the moment and profit at just below 700 million for this year afaik. Next year its forecast to reach 900 million profit I think, since currently they arent earning much due to costly broadband investment, court cases, the bad investment ITV shares saga, etc

The extra pound or two wont be noticed by most subscribers and they do need help to reach that 1 billion profit per year soon, so we should all be happy to do our bit for the needy :). Most will simply keep paying.

However, Bskyb shares fell drastically yesterday (-4.9%) to there lowest level since 2004. The future seems a little uncertain maybe?

Sky is to increase the prices of its subscription TV packages from September 1.

The Entertainment Mix will go up by £1 per month, the new cost ranging from £17 to £22 depending on the number of mixes subscribed to.

Sports Mix will go up by £2, so that it varies in cost from £36 for those subscribing to only one mix to £40 for those with all six.

The price of the standalone Movies Mix will not change, but the price of the Sports and Movies Mixes combination will increase by £2.

Anyone else remember the days when we got the full works for £16 a month!?

i remember when you paid for the satellite receiver, and that was it lol

yeah I remember that DD
amstrad box with seperate decoder lol
free channels then if I remember it went to £9.99 a month ?

lol, i had the old SRX100 and seperate decoder too.

Then I got a free upgrade tp the SRD400.

I can't remember it being free though. :)

Yep I remember 5.99 a month subs on analogue, then I think it went to 6.99 then 7.99 then 9.99 all within a very short time, about 9 months maybe? That was the last they had from me and i cancelled. What a favour they done me as I realised you could get so much more and for so much less. Over 15 years of more sports, more films, more content, real porn, and for tiny fractions of what subscribers have paid. Each time they increase prices it makes more people open their eyes.

I've had a love hate relationship with them for years, during the analogue days I was right in there from 1989 and loved it, Television from Space amazing :) Then the Markus Khun stuff happened and I cancelled my subs and went DIY using a Season Interface and appropriate software - how much fun was all that stuff!?

Once the 'Season' stuff ended I switched over to a motorised dish and started playing with D2mac, oh the joys of watching the data stream on my pc for hours, I'd just sit there fascinated with all these numbers scrolling up my screen and reading some documents that explained what it all meant, wonderful :)

I then got the Sky Digital bug and subscribed to the full package and took a month off work to catchup :) I soon bored myself with Sky and started looking at other Digital tv packages, but IMO modern day methods of getting free tv are too easy, it's very popular and it's lost a lot of it's appeal.

I do it for the buzz of watching a previously encrypted channel suddenly clear on my TV, I'm not interested in actually watching it though, it's the chase I enjoy. :)

Its looking likely that Sky will lose around maybe 500 million from the ITV shares fiasco. Its basically heading close for a total years earnings that will have been lost. Its no wonder they want to increase prices, but I'd say subscribers should all write official complaint over the waste, maybe its the bad decision makers that should pay from their pockets, rather than subscribers.
Sky paid 135p per ITV share costing about 940 million, but thats now worth about 37p a share and they have paid loads in legal costs too. They may have stopped rival competition from growing but this cost isn't fair for the end customer.

I remember fitting Sky Digital when it first started and people asking me to take their old equipment - I had a lovely PAce MSS1000 with Dolby Suround Sound and no shortage of full package cards that werent paired and with Skys bad housekeeping at the time tended to last for months!! (I was subbing so I didnt get a free sub from Sky!!!)
