if its got a net bootable firmware on it you wont need to even open your modem. if it has'nt you will need to install a 4 pin header or solder the
wires from a max 232 interface to it

how do i know if its got net bootable firmware

Use a programme called net boot you can find that on here in downloads. you can also find a tutorial that will explain what you want to know.

Cheers

if your firmware is sb4200-0.4.9.6-scm02-nosh its locked. if its not locked
use net boot as posted above. if it is locked you will need a 232 interface.
download etherboot from the downloads its an all in one software no need to use the hyperterminal

thanks for ur help just one more question

if i buy the same model as the one i have of modem from ebay does it matter what one i mod?
