samsung 2100 wont boot up

i have a samsung 2100c box that ive been given and the box when trying to boot up isnt even switching on really has feint numbers flashing on it when o switch it on but doenst do anything else, could it be the battery thats flat? and has anyone experienced this themselves, box was given to me from friend box unused for a while thought it may be the battery and if so could i take one out of another sammie 2100 and try that in the other sammie! and do i need to solder the battery into position?
