router signal poor

Hi Guys, can anyone tell me how to boost the signal on a linksys wrtg54gs router running DD-WRTv24
without the obvious bigger expensive antennas?

might sound daft but instead of pointing the antenna's up, point them too each other so imagine line of sight from one to the other.....find that if i do that on mine it greatly improves from a low signal to a very good one and thats going through 2 solid re-enforced concrete walls.........

Also try changing channels. You may be getting interference from a neighbour

I use the tomato firmware for my linksys. You can then adjust the power strength for the signal.
