Hi, could someone kindly help an aging dad please?
I have my laptop hooked up downstairs directly to a cable modem.

Now my son wants to set up a dream box in his bedroom which also requires an internet feed. I have heard of "routers" and guess this is what i will need.
Can anyone advise a suitable set-up/model, and can i do away with all the wires going from downstairs to upstairs.
To most people this is a silly question but to me ...........ah please help
Thank you

I think most cable routers should do the job, however you will also need a wireless network bridge for the Dreambox.

Dreambox WiFi Bridge

P.S. Don't buy an ADSL router by mitake, make sure it's for cable and has a WAN port and not one for a telephone line.
