Replicating HD

My old xbox is failing but I don't know if it is the console or my hd, it keeps coming up with disc errors when playing games.

I have the slayers disc to install, but was just wondering if there was anyway to clone the hd using my pc to another hd. This would save me backing up and re-installing games and apps?

AFAIK the easiest what to do this would be a chipped xbox and then ftp the files from drive. Then format the new drive in the xbox and ftp the files back and then set the HDD serial number and lock the new drive.
