Replacing lazer in ps3

has anyone ever attempted this ? i have seen a ps3 on ebay that says it won't read games or dvd i think it maybe the lazer but how easy is it to replace them or do sony offer a warrenty past 12 months

no idea about replacing the lazer

sony may even repair this for free. phone them and ask, its worth a try
 
yeah worth a try with phoning sony.
surprised the person selling it on ebay aint phoned them as sony are pretty good at still dealing with ppl after the warrenty has past. unless it's an import ps3 then sony uk don't really wanna know.
 
its says in the listing that it is a uk version the guy has about 5/6 of them
 
surely your console is new enough to claim under warranty? If not, take deedies advice and get the extended warranty.
