recovering replaced email in win98

a friend of mine has recently asked me if there is any way he can recover a replaced email file he had a original email then some wks later recieved one of the same name but not quite the same content windows asked if he wanted to replace file with new one off course he said yes . Is there any way we can get back the original first mail ! thanks in advance

Do you mean there was an attachment in the email with the same name a file already saved locally?

You can have as many emails as you want with the same subject.

What email client is he using?

outlook, yes replaced attachment

The new attachment with the same name will have been saved to a new part of the local disk and the old one removed/deleted.

Search for a tool GetDataBack and see if that can recover the file.
Also try PhotoRec < recovers more than just images.
