Hi guys my vw golf rear bearing are gone ..been on eurocarparts but there seem to be a few suggestions there when I enter my reg no Fr10 eaw. But they all seem to have differing inner diameter dimensions..can someone suggest or tell me which will fit my car it's a 1.6tdi ,90 bhp hatchback. I can pm you the vin chassis number if it helps to get the original oem part..Ta

thanks mate...micks garage has some but does the inner diameter make much difference ? gives me a few weel bearing kits for my golf which the site says will fit..but some have inner diameter of 30mm , some have inner diameter of 32mm ? does this make a difference...?

yes its does make a difference. best way to confirm is phone the vw dealer's parts department also might be suprised at there price

We had a scenic in for rear discs with built in bearings and got ones listed for car and wrong size hub.

I don't think vw will tell you part number, done it before about a turbo unit some time ago..just gave me price.. the problem is most online websites you look at , eurocarparts, buycarparts, micksgarage etc...all give you lots of wheel bearing kits from different manufacturers..yet they all state that it will fit my car, regardless of the diameter being slightly different.. how is someone like me suppose to choose which bearings kit to buy with all these different measurements.. really confusing..I'll go to eurocarparts tommorrow or ring them and give them my vin number.

all you ask them if to confirm the size that should be listed for your car as you know the car has 30 mm and 32 mm rear brearing

Also check if there is a wire to back of bearing and if so it has ABS which also narrows it down more.

just an update - it turns out that the rear wheel bearings are fine. I took it to local MOT station. The front drivers side wheel bearing is gone. I replaced both front wheel bearings, discs and pads in Feb 2019..bought the wheel bearings from bnc market ltd , they come with 4 years warranty..ive emailed them just waiting for reply..most likely they say return the faulty wheel bearing for replacement. think ill let the garage buy the part , fit it , and then i can return the faulty wheel bearing for refund. Unless of course they send me a new one and i send the faulty one back after ive had it fitted..

their reply is for me to upload video of problem, and photo of wheel bearing showing manufacturer marking ...how do i make a vid with wheel bearing noise whilst driving car..? or i could take it off and send it to them for inspection..which would mean i have to buy another bearing and get that fitted and send the faulty one back for them to inspect..no doubt theyll probaly look for an excuse not to pay .

When we have car up on ramp we can spin wheel by hand and the noisy one is noisy and usually feels rough on the hub.Depending on noise if when road testing car when moving from left to right the pitch of sound changes as when more weight is put on the faulty bearing the louder it gets. Those hubs are easy to check as will feel rough when turning by hand.Invoice for parts and labour + vat on return of item.

I use an old C3 for 'weekend' running about and one of its LH bearings started to howl , particularly when cornering. I wasn't certain whether it was front or rear (glad it's not just me!) so I removed the rear hub to see if there was any obvious evidence (it didn't make any noise 'off load'), couldn't see anything so popped it back on. Decided to let the garage handle the front end but.... noise had gone!
Presumably I had inadvertently put it back on at a less worn part??? Dunno, but over 5000km later and still no noise. I just hope I've not put a curse on it now!

If a bearing is gone its noisy or could be a loose nut due to part wear and movement in flange.
Other thing could be a partially seized brake caliper which made my noise in rear of car and partially reddened my brake disc.

Defo was bearing..made vid whilst driving u can hear the bad bearing..got one from local spares shop..garage put it in..all fine now..made vid of mr turning the bearing in my hand.. doesnt freely turn..lots of grinding noise..also took pic of manufacturer marking on it..sent all that to manufacturer..waiting for response from them..hoping for refund.. or they can arrange for courier to pick up.garage said other side bearing was a little stiff but no noise..most likely that is on its way out too...may have to do this all over again..

As a side note, all cars wear Bearings manufactured by an OEM manufacturer (dah...). The thing is, that when you purchase them through a car manufacturer you pay multiple times the actual price. Best solution imho, is remove the bearing, see if you can make out its number e.g. 6204 2RS and order one from a bearing manufacturer e.g. SNR. And if you have any problem, send me a pm and I 'd ble glad to help you identify any bearing used on your auto. On very rare cases haven't I been able to find a bearing from the OEM manufacturer (only happens when the car manufacturer orders the next batch from another OEM).

In future if your buying VW parts try and go genuine if you can or else go for Febi, Meyle, Pagid, Gates etc. VW clearly don't make their own parts but Febi, as an example, do and the parts are identical. I've been running new and old VWs for years it always amazes me the extra that they put onto some parts just because it has a VW badge, although their service stuff is usually good value, like oils, filters etc. The Febi stuff is identical to OEM and Meyle is as good as OEM. Look to see if you have a TPS (Trade Parts Specialists) near you as well. Its the VW trade sales for parts and is often more reasonable than the dealership. Personally, I only buy the odd fluid or something like brake pads or brake discs from Eurocarparts. They sell a lot of rubbish (an example are their thermostats, not worth the box they come in) and what isn't cheap crap is often very over priced, even with their 60/70% off offers that they run. For consumable parts like bearings etc I'd look at Febi or even try TPS if you have one. It might surprise you. When it comes to VW parts I stand by "buy cheap, buy twice", but clearly don't spend more if you don't have to. I think that makes sense??

It's an old thread, but a decent effort at posting. Have a Like.
