ps3 won't play dvds after ylod

i have just fixed a mates ylod ps3. but his bluray drive only plays games. i haven't tried a bluray dvd yet but i've tried a few dvds and the playstation doesnt regonize them. anyone got any ideas because i am totally stumped. :Angryfire

If you dont understand what that means -

the ones with dual lenses, have one for DVD and one for bluray. sounds like one is failing, if it was the single lens type it wouldn't read either

reflow the gpu.... (heatgun or rework station)

reflow isnt a permanent fix.

You need to reball the chips, I have a £1500 BGA rework station for that.

its the ps3 60gb. i'm sure it only has a single lens.
