As above this may be a completely stupid question, is there are anyway to get Kodi onto a tv without using something like an Amazon Fire stick?

Basically you need another device connected to you TV normally by HDMI. This can be a Fire, Android, PC, Mac or Linux Box Some TVs can nativity install it but as you are asking this I doubt you can on yours
