Postage costs on eBay?

I'm selling a 15.1" Laptop screen on eBay.

I want to make sure it gets to it's destination in one piece so I'm going to send it Royal Mail Special Delivery.

The problem is eBay won't let me charge more than £7 for postage!

It'll cost me more than a tenner to post this, what's going on?

Use parcel2go and their dhl service. costs about 8 quid. i sent an xbox360 and cost 8 quid. royal mail are a bunch of t0ssers anyway.
 
the only way to get round it is by hiking the price of the screen up to compensate ya losses on delivery mate!

It's going to cost me £8 just to post it with Parcel2go.

What about the packaging? I'll need to go out an buy a nice sturdy box and a shit load of bubble wrap, why aren't I allowed to charge for that? Do eBay think that items don't need to be protected, do they think we just throw an address sticker on our items and drop it in the post.

Talking of packaging, what's the best way to post a LCD screen, it's just the LCD panel, a thin slice of glass basically. I've got a bad feeling about this.
 
well ive just bought a sat nav from up your neck of the woods c8nt wants 10 pound for p+p better be wrapped in gold leaf for that.

wrap it in cardboard then put it in a box with screwed up newspaper top and bottom and all around it make it tight so when you shake the box it dont rattle
 
I'd make sure it's insured whoever you post it with. What's to stop the guy claiming it arrived broken?

How do they calculate the postage?

surly you can enter any amount you want on the P+P details bit of the create
your listings page ......

cant understand why they are putting a limit on you mate... :err:

reason being is ebay do not charge a fee on the postage, only a percentage on the sale price. so what people used to do is sell a laptop for a penny but charge 500 quid postage...saving 30 quid on fees. ebay caught on, realised they were losing out on millions of pounds worth of fees so changed the rules.
 
i sold a wireless desktop last week.
i had no idea how much postage to charge.
i noticed peeps were charging £7 p&p for the same item, so i just went with that...
cost of p&p (recorded delivery royal mail) was £7.18..
not a bad guess lol

so £7 p+p is way too low then...

a way to get round these fixed postage charges is to set postage at collection only, but in auction listing state that you will post and to contact you after the auction finishes. I have done this and had no problem. Dunno if it still applies but for some items it had to be free p&p, wtf it costs you to send the stuff. do as above and you will be okay.
 
Hope a big name makes something to rival ebay soon; they've been getting away with fee hikes and bending the world over a barrel for too long now.

craiglist is as big or bigger in parts of the US. They do operate over here but tbh right now ebay has the lions share of the market and unfortunately having more listing generates more customers.

I remember loot being big back in the 90's, now hardly anyone seems to use it.
