My stepsons pc keeps freezing for a second or 2 every few minutes. He has run a full virus scan using norton 360 and it found a trojan which it removed but it has not stopped the problem of the freezing. Any ideas what could be causing it? He is running windows 7

It could be a PSU issue or hard drive issue.

try using ctrl alt delete and see if any program is using 100% of cpu power might give you more indication as to wat it could be

It could even be norton itself if its running in the background...but as others said, do a scan in safe mode with internet off.

You can also check processes running and how much cpu they are using.

Personally, if i see a virus ormalware thats infected the PC, nothing beats a total format. most of these will attach them onto other files and you would never know.

...norton 360...
Don't mean to flog a dead horse, but Norton could well be the problem. 360 is supposed to be less resource hungry than previous versions, but it's still bloated compared to other AV solutions. Disable Norton in Control Panel, reboot, check to see if there is still any slow down.

Whether it runs slow or not with Norton turned off, the fact that Norton didn't detect the Trojan until he ran a full scan it's worth booting into Safe Mode with Networking and running the usual scans (e.g. MalwareBytes, online virus scan using Trend Mirco HouseCall and/or Panda ActiveScan).

If you do find malware don't forget to turn off system restore...

@ little pob When you say dont forget to turn off system restore do you mean whilst removing the malware?
