You can obtain windows xp from the "usual places" (your nearest microsoft retailer) and format it that way. There is no way you can do it without the disk tho. Altho i would recommend you find or download all your drivers, ie, graphics, sounds, network, etc first and back them up so you can install them after you done a full format and reinstalled windows.

You can use the good old F/Disc via DOS.

Beware: Make sure your Bios Boot settings are set for

1st - CD-ROM
2nd - Floppy (If you have one)
3rd - HDD

That way when you put a new windows disc in, it will boot to the disc straight away and know you don't have a version of windows installed?

If he has a disk then why no boot from the CD in the first place? It will format the hdd as part of the install. No need for fdisk.

But he says he hasn't got a cd...??? Or have I picked this up wrong?

Yeah mate, I suggested fdisk because he hasn't got a disc. This is usually used for selling on a home made PC with no OS. (If people still do that....lol).

Not sure he want to put windows back on? if he does, then yes, just boot from CD (When he gets one) and format that way.
