One im looking at on ebay

here

I would raise the question that if someone bought the item on the 1st of September and put it up for auction on the 24th September, can it really be that good.

I have the Eken M001, which is a 7" pad with Android 1.6 and a hacked firmware from slatedroid forum. It was £64 from pandawill back when Amazon had them for £129 and they were over £100 on ebay (ebay is not the cheapest place for a lot of these things as it is full of dropshippers trying to make a profit, it's much cheaper to go to their suppliers in China).

It has Wi-Fi (which keeps turning itself off). The Android market place didnt work with the original firmware as all these chinese devices have the same android ID and can't log into the market place, but the hacked and rooted firmware allows you to get your own google ID and make the market work.
The battery life sucks.
The screen is very sensitive and works well, although the physical mounting of the screen in the case is crap and the screen moves.
The android is also quite responsive now, the original firmware wasnt.
Music playback is fine, video playback isn't.

The wife uses it as an ebook, a task it's quite good at, and little else.

I am sure that other models are better.
This is only 4 months old and already it's dropped to half the price is started at.

I would have a look round slatedroid and see what problems people are having with the pads, and which ones people like and praise.

There are tons of these things knocking around, many are the same kit with different names.

Then check out the prices on places like pandawill, price angels, dealextreame or volumerates as they all offer free delivery and wholesale prices.

Thanks Captn that was awesome response I will take your advice on that one great stuff.

Android OS is excellent, as long as the hardware is capable of running it then it should be fine.

.....buit somehow I think the hardware will be of questionable quality.

Thanks for the help guys I have decided to go for this one the ebay seller is from china but from his feeback and rep it seems a good deal at that price.
Here
I was tempted by the elonex from SVP they seem to be out of stock all the bloody time so Ive gone with the epad. What I like is the fact that the CPU has been upgraded to a duel core 1.4ghz it has the 256mb ram and the latest android software along with the gyroscope thingy where you turn it and the screen turns. Only thing is I have to add the VAT(customs) but after that its still only 160 quid which seems a fair deal to me. Will keep you all posted on how I get on with it.

Hi there, does anyone have any recommendations for an epad/ ebook reader for around the £80 region?

Thanks,
Nick

This is the one I'm getting, when amazon get them in stock.

ARCHOS

Mainly for the battery life, 36 hours music playback, 7 hours video playback, 10 hours websurfing using Wi-Fi. Nothing from China comes close.

And you get the official Android 2.2 Froyo, all the Chinese ones have unofficial androids, which is why most of them don't have the Google apps like the market place installed (even though some say they do), as they all have the same ID.

Cheers,

AdvancedMP3Players.co.uk are selling these for £251 + 5% cashback via Quidco. Also Quidco members get free delivery from £50+ rather than £150+, free delivery is next day FedEx too.

(I got my Popcorn Hour A110 from these guys and was kept informed every step of the way.)
