BP says the total clean-up cost of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill has come to more than £1.5bn so far
The company says the operation has involved 37,000 people and 4,500 boats.
It has received 74,000 compensation claims and 39,000 payments have been made, totalling over £84m.
In a statement BP said: "The cost of the response to date amounts to approximately $2.35bn (£1.57bn), including the cost of the spill response, containment, relief well drilling, grants to the Gulf states, claims paid, and federal costs."
The company has agreed to a $20bn (£13.4bn) fund to pay claims after pressure from the White House.
BP added that it is "too early to quantify other potential costs and liabilities associated with the incident".
The oil giant's shares plunged to a 14-year low at one point, falling by almost 9% to just under 300p after the markets opened.
Oil continues to gush from the ruptured well following the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig two months ago.
The drifting slick has contaminated more than 125 miles of Louisiana coast, shutting down fishing operations and triggering long-term fears for the region's already endangered wildlife.
BP resumed siphoning oil on Thursday after the cap on the leaking pipe had to be removed due to a system malfunction.
While the cap was off, around 10,000 gallons of oil an hour began flowing uncontrolled into the sea.
But the company said it collected or burned off 23,725 barrels of oil on Thursday.
