what to get ok have the hack a working no probs now should i go and buy an external HDD or would it be best to get an internal HDD since the ftp client is available to send all games up to the hard drive

Oh and befor anyone says just get the 2 well money bit tight at the moment

well all games (that can work) will work from internal, any games with a file too big wont run from external, so the choice is yours, hopefully they might sort out a better way than using fat32 file system

i was under the impression that not all games worked? a small quantity didnt work including MW2 on internal or external ?

plz confirm?

How big is your internal hdd on PS3 ? I would say go ahead and get an external as you get miles more space for similar money - but having said that, I'm not, my money is going on an internal.....

definately go for an internal first. then get a 2tb external at a later date.

i slapped a 640gb drive in internally and i just share the 1.5tb external i use for my jtag 360 works fine and dandy, nice to see the 2 getting along

What's the largest size the PS3 can handle?

And does Psgroove/Jailbreak etc improve upon this capacity in any way?

I've got a 1Tb external, but I'd much rather have a larger internal drive due to the file size limit.

There are 1 TB internal 2.5" drives about now for about £80. Might be worth a pop or you could always put it in your sat receiver if it don't work ;-)

it will support a tb drive but the 1tb drives available are 12.3mm thick and i think the ps3 only takes 9mm,i know the current 1tb 2.5inch drives wont fit,i was looking at getting one, thats why i plumped for a 640

be warned tho whatever size you get,if you had os installed b4 you updated whatever allocation you had for that is ported to your new drive, ive lost 70 gb because i had 10 percent or something allocated to os

Shit, that's me lost 70Gb then mate.:(

Surely there must be some way to reset this?

70Gb is a lot of space.

You could always get one of these and use a desktop hdd with a esata connection, only downside is you need to power the hard drive separately

that....combined with this

SATA QuickDeck | SHARKOON Technologies GmbH

is the best solution IMO

I use the above (minus the ps3 bit - waiting on the maximus usb device to come).....along with a USB selector switch on the shelve (a bit like a cross between a kvm switch and a scart selector switch).....which allows the same hdd docking station to feed my Popcorn A-110, HTPC, Wii, jtag 360 and soon to be JBPS3. Just pop in the relevant hdd (multiple hdds full of mkvs, 360 games, wii games etc) and fire up the console/mediaplayer.

Saves money longterm and a tidy solution, as don't have to buy multiple external hdd with their own unique power supplies, use regular internal 3.5" drives, and for this docking station, the lid covers the hdd unlike some of the uglier solutions that have it sticking straight up - so ideal for a front room to stop the missus frmo complaining

Apparently Western Digital and a couple other manufacturers (Seagate too I think) are making 1tb internal hdd's that will fit into a PS3 (i zombie is correct current 1tb hdd's are a couple mm's too thick) so look out for those later down the line but in the meantime I believe 640gb is the largest internal hdd you can get that will fit into a PS3 hdd caddy thingie....
