I have a noisy back boiler, when the gas finnishes heating up and switches off it starts banging and creaking, I have drained the system to no avail, just wondering if there is air in the tank and if so how to get rid of it, tried bleeding the radiators makes no difference.

Most likely kettling, the pump is stopping to early and the residual head in the heat exchanger is boiling the water.
