no internet

hi, pc been off for 2 days then when back on i get yellow exclamation mark and unidentified network, no internet, running windows 7,can anyone help.

have tried updating driver
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew and so on, nothing seems to work

Try pinging the network gateway it'll be something like 192.168.0.1

If that works then your NIC is fine. Then try pinging bbc.co.uk and 8.8.8.8

Check both of those. Post the results here and we can help further.

Could you post the output of what you're getting please?

What happens when you ping 192.168.0.1?

If you cannot ping the gateway then the problem is between your PC and the router, so it could be the NIC, or it could be the RJ45 cable.

ping 4 packets sent- 4 packets lost.
have changed rj45 cable same problem

shut off router for 30min still nothing, have also done virus checks.

What happens if you put the laptop on the PC's Ethernet cable?

Maybe a bit extreme but a Linux Live CD or USB would show if it was hardware related.

laptop works fine,will try and source a linux live cd and give it a try.thanks

If you cannot ping the default gateway, then you've got problems internally.

Check the network settings, see what IP is set, check the DNS settings.

But if you've got a 192.168.0.x IP, you should be able to ping any IP within the /24

if i go into router and look at connected devices i do get an ip, dns but only for about10 seconds then disconnects

Did you have a look at the adapter power saving settings? I think it's in the Advanced tab.

SUCCESS, went into power management and turned everything off and it worked. thanks to Spectre and everyone for their help.
