Guides and Info no internet

hi guys - a freind of mine gave me his pc to look at, its one of those old medion pc that aldi use to sell years ago, p4 3 ghz with HT..not much ram 512MB and has windows xp home edition on it, anyway i cant connect to the internet, in device manager it shows it has 1394 network adaptor and Status Shows Connected , yet i cant Can't Connect To Internet ?..is this one of those built in network adaptors ?, is it goosed ? or shall i add a network card adaptor to the pc ?....cheers.

1394 is firewire.

Any devices with no drivers? Confirmed lan is enabled in bios?
