As the title states, I'm new to FreeSat, so don't know that much about it, as far as I have learned it is better than FreeView.

So basically, you install a satellite dish, point to south-east direction, or if it's motorized it has the ability to move in multiple directions towards multiple satellites allowing to pick up more channels due to multiple satellite reception. Then you plug the dish into a receiver, like an openbox or something, and then into TV and all is well in the universe.

Also assuming you don't need anything like Sky or Virgin media connection.

Questions:

Are all these channels that come from multiple satellites free?
do they all fall into the free-sat category?
Is there any UK specific restrictions ?

I'm in the Wales area, so how many satellites would it be possible to reach?

How many channels can one obtain from a motorized dish? (feel free to answer that in anyway you wish ;) )

and finally, if it is possible can you give me a brief explanation on:

LNBs
diseqc switch

and other things that need to be considered

Thanks appreciate it if somebody could answer the questions, as i'm learning as i go along here.
cheers

Will take this a bit at a time, FREESAT is the term used to receive channels from 28e with a FREESAT receiver, you can also receive the same channels plus more with a normal satellite receiver like a Technomate TM5402 M3.
Just to confirm FREESAT can be received via a satellite dish, FREEVIEW through your TV aerial. Most of the channels that you will be able to receive will be FREE.
Before I write my next essay, have a look around this forum to see what can be done, plus others will be giving you advice.

Just to give you a bit more info sky and freesat are both on the same satellite that occupy 28.2e. Sky usually encrypt there services and freesat is mainly free to air. Every few degrees east of west of 28.2 there is usually and different satellite beaming down to various parts of europe. By aligning a big enough dish you should be able to pick these channels up. Lots are free lots more are encrypted but that's a different story.

The question is what channels do you want to watch and what shows?

Nicely said, guys, nicely said...

Ok moving on..

Some of you mentioned lots of free channels and encrypted ones.

How many free channels are we talking about, I googled freesat uk channel list and i think it's not too far different from freeview but with one or two extras. Is this correct?

Now let's talk about these encrypted ones, what's the deal with this encryption?

Encrypted means encrypted. Goggle card sharing and it will explain the workings of it.
Also check "kingofsat" on 28.2e that will tell all channels freeview and encrypted.
Picture from kingofsat below. That will tell you all channels and the ones highlighted brown are encrypted.
or on kingofsat click free to air and it will populate the page of just freeview. Same with encryption.

To help you, can you advise us to what it is that you require Films / Sport(Football)(EPL,Etc).Because you can get a lot of channels through the BISS CODE or POWERVU CODE. To learn more about this have a look at the TECHNOMATE section of this forum.

That's the way to receive a perm ban. Unbelievable :( we don't need that sort on the forum.
