So my NAS drive has given up and wont boot anymore.

It is still under warrenty and can be sent away for repair.

With it full of blu-ray rips, apps and music I am hesitant in sending it away.

Would you guys risk it?

I'd say take the drive out and attach it to your computer and copy data over or wipe it, but then that would void the warranty.

Dont really know if they would go through your data, when im reparing customers, no matter how tempting i dont go through it. Then again they might. Privacy and all that.

If they go through it what can they do?

If they report you to the RIAA, MPAA (or british equivalent) they will just ask them how they come about the info and they ill have to say they were snooping through the drives.

I think more than likely they will copy off what they want and trash the rest. :)

I've sent a couple of full external hard drives back to Seagate, after they have died, and heard nothing.

So that was you with all the donkey porn on the dead seagates.. wow :)

As others have mentioned, most likely they will just copy the stuff the want and no way to prove they are not your own personal rips.

The only issue would be with illegal stuff like kiddy porn. Just ask Gary Glitter.

I was about to mention Gary glitter lol.

I shouldn't think it'll be a problem mate, even if they did try stitching you up, just deny knowing it was there and blame them lol

I have decided against sending it away.
Sat in front of a linux PC, updating first and then going to try and pull the data off it.
