I am fooking fuming my son came home from school last night and said that a boy in his class showed him a (naked ladie) as he put it on the schools computers. now these computers are obviously hooked up to the net so weres the net nanny type programe?

the missus is going in today to give em hell ok the boy shouldnt have shown him the image but at the same time that boy shouldnt have been able to access porn form an infant school pc.

my son is only 7 and he wouldnt even know were to look for somthing like that he didnt even know that sort of thing existed till yesterday.

i have an iqon computer which comes with childgaurd installed when the kids are on here it filters anything nasty out and blocks it works brilliantly. they cant even access peer 2 peer software.

the school should have somthing like that in force, im not happy.

That's diabolical. In no way should kids at school be able to do this on PC's? I'd be fumming too Sargieboy.

I know one of our local schools PC's reset to a state after every boot so that things can't be stored on them, But I can only assume they have some kind of child protection control on them?

I'd be writing into the local paper with that one mate? How many other kids are getting exposed to this at such a young age?

Thats really screwed up mate. I'd give the school an ear bashing.

You can also setup permissions in your web router to restrict access to adult sites. I prefer this as the kids are smart enough to get around software plugins.

the schools use some program called solpex or sumting i dnt member prb totaly wrong and some website and restriceted like google images aint restriced

All the schools in my town use a central blocker that runs off a proxy. It is well defendid if a site isnt in any of the lists blacklists or whitelists it wont show it its "Un-Classified".

my 15 year just said there one at school has a program that blocks sites but a lad did find one update a simple name . like www.flights.com put spelt wrong and the program hadnt seen it before so it popped up ? so l think some porno sites use site names that have a slight spelling mistake to get the thick or teens in

i know its a rant page but i honestly belive no school would "allow" 7 year olds to view porn. im not saying this lad and your son didnt view a picture somewhere but im sure this would be a page that is/was designed to avoid detection.

as said in previous posts most school systems are quite heavily censored for obvious reasons, and are controlled not by the school but by 3rd parties.

having said that there are ways around most blocking systems and its not beyond belief that this lad has worked a way around (or has been told how to get around the controlling software).

u would be surprised what kids can find work arounds for, see some of the posts in computer section in our forum were people need to stop their kids from accessing the web after hours etc.

But it is very hard to control it. Domain names are being created all the time. Say Google forgot to register google.com i bet someone would snap it up straight away

well the missus had a go at the head teatcher and she is looking into it and said there must have been a breach in the system. also she spoke to a friend who works at the school as a coordinator and she said she put "toys" in once and it brought up rampant rabbits and other sex toys and so on. so yes the school is to blame for having inadiqute protection in place.

When my son was at school they used rm connect but it could be turned off with alt/ctrl/del now that is dumb even screensavers can disable alt/ctrl/del

Why would 7 year olds need to surf the net ? everything they need should be on the intranet and there should be no internet access allowed.

my children were not allowed unsupervised internet until they were 16 even though my son had is own computer at 13, he was added to the home network when he was 16.

To be honest I think a 7 year old child does not need the internet. The school should have a library and books. Thats how we learned in my days, and im only 23. We had one computer for the whole school which ran MS-DOS and had 5inch floppy disks.
I have a 10 year old brother who uses MSN, but he is not allowed to, everytime he see's me coming he will switch msn off. I always tell him he aint allowed but i havent disabled it from his account. It wouldnt do him no good if i did. He knows thats im monitoring him and i know he's using it and who's on his list.
Kids will always be curious and the school should be doing better to monitor it. Especially adult material and non adult material such as chat sites and msn. Even if there was programs to stop access to them, there should have been supervision.

- in what way is the teacher to blame for this?

Kids will always find ways round security settings - its impossible to block everything especially when companies pay big bucks for experts to figure out ways to bypass security measures - grabbing anyone by the neck is unacceptable.

I teach and would not be a happy chappie if you pulled that stunt on me - engage brain before doing anything.

Having said that, children should not be allowed Internet access unsupervised - since we dont know the full story we will never be able to determine who is to blame apart from the source of the image.

thats a good point and i honestly will be asking the head the purpose of the internet in an infant school. i do know though that his school goes up to 11 year olds.

i must stress also that the kid that did it is a little so and so. my son said though that he typed sex in google. surely sex should be filtered.

bloody hell mate i have 3 girls still @ school various ages i would hate to think schools are not in full control of this sort of thing , i hope u sort this matter out and investigate the matter further .

I put a free filter on my PCs called Naomi.
Done some testing and its stopped everything I could think of.

I think every family pc should have this.
