Win 7 Microsoft ends Windows 7 support: What should you do?

Thanks Alimac for the link ..
Just wondering ..... I run win7 on my PC. Its not a legit copy and I've been running it for about 6 years without any updates. I seem to recall that I turned updates off cos its not a legit copy ??!! I've never had any security issues. I run AVG free as my only security.
I've probably been very lucky... but my question is this ... should I now start using the security updates or just stick with what I've been doing and hope for the best ??

Thanks in advance

Cyber-security experts are urging Windows 7 users to upgrade their operating system.

Microsoft is going to stop supporting Windows 7 from Tuesday so that it can focus on "newer technologies".

As a result, Windows 7 users will no longer receive the all-important security updates and patches that keep their machines safe.

One in four Windows users is running Windows 7,

Microsoft ends Windows 7: What should you do?
In my opinion, it isnt a big deal. It is a mild security concern, but in the short run it isnt an issue unless you are a business. home users have very little to worry about.

Some of us are still running the even older Windows XP, but I wouldn't use XP (or now Windows 7) on a machine that's connected to the interwebs. Isolated machine on your own, well-controlled LAN, maybe...

If you're running an unpatched version of ANY os then you're vulnerable to so many hacks. For instance, Windows 7 unpatched is open to the eternal blue hack, which can allow any number of ransomeware to install and encrypt your systems.

The problem with going from Win 7 to Win 8 or even 10, is that both of those OS are horrid compared to Win 7. Until a new version comes out that serves everyone well, I think majority will stick with what they know and have.

@gazupnorth - Is your PC/Laptop connected to the internet? I know you've got AVG, but that's about as much use an unmbrella in a typhoon, you've locked all the windows and left the front door open. The problem you've got now is, that if you update it'll likely break lots of stuff, and take an eternity to update/download/update. Also if your device is on the internet, then it'll be on Shodan ;)

if you installed any Monthly Quality Rollup, or July 2016 update rollup KB3172605, both already have updated WUC

if you installed January 2020 Security Only update KB4534314, or the fix update KB4539602, both already have updated WUC

Extract the pack contents to a folder with simple path

How to use

Make sure to install the prerequisite updates (reboot if required)

- right-click on LiveOS-Setup.cmd and "Run as administrator"

- from the menu, press the corresponding number for the desired option:

[1] Full Installation {ESU Suppressor + WU ESU Patcher}

i have windows 7 ultimate edition on my dell inspiron..i use to use that for dl xbox 360 games, burning them with ihas drive, hence my recent request for a xbox360 iso site...i havnt used that pc for ages ,so dug it out of the loft and fired it up. it had lots of windows 7 updates that it installed..should i upgrade to windows 10 or leave it at windows 7 ?..thinking of putting in SSD drive...as its slow nowadays compared to these new laptops with ssd drives..thought id get the old xbox 360 out to play some games , with this lockdown in place.

I doubt there will be Win10 drivers, especially graphics ones.

I still use Win7, I still use XP.

Just take a backup and be careful. Read the comments where you download from.
