CD & DVD MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ870QJ 1.01 (ATA) problem

tried burning a film the other day and it didnt work, using convertxtodvd, now iv just tried to burn an iso of xp using imgburn and its failed again, can anyone help me get my drive working again or is it fooked!

really havnt got a clue how to sort this out if indeed it can be fixed, the dvd drive is in my sony vaio laptop.

all suggestions welcome!!!
