Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey has announced his retirement from international football.

The powerful forward, who won 62 caps but scored just seven goals during his England career, has decided to call time on his spell with the Three Lions following their miserable World Cup campaign.

All we need now is Capello to drag the big lump out of retirement 2 weeks before Euro 2012 lmao

THE GUY CONTRIBUTED MORE TO OUR WORLD CUP CAMPAIGN THAN ROONEY AND LAMPARD.

Just remember, 5 different England managers picked him.
He was instrumental in us qualifying for this world cup.
Owen, Rooney and Shearer loved playing with him because he created a lot of space for them.
Probably the most unselfish striker I have ever seen.
Was always the first line of defence.

Not sure about him contributing more than rooney and lampard mate (get the stats out) Rooney scored 4 goals in 4 games in qualifying and it's not gone unnoticed that you left your beloved Gerrard out of it lmao.. Agree that the strikers loved playing with him as he was/is a great target man. World cup defenses got onto him straight away though and left him goalside in order to mark the Rooneys out of the game. Truth is he couldnt score in a brothel with five hundred pound hanging out of his kecks and experienced defenses knew they could leave the daft lump cuz lets face it he aint gonna score.

Strikers are judged on scoring goals, end of story. That is there job. Heskey is statistically goals/game ratio the worst striker to ever wear an England shirt. Fact.

Yes he was unselfish, yes he's big, but he doesn't have that mean streak to bully people around and a guy his size should on the pitch. But could he score ? Not even if he had taken a few bob to a thai whorehouse.

I don't put any stock in international retirement anymore, guys like Zidane and Carragher have made a complete mockery of it and basically whored themselves out for 1 last crack at the big time. As a Leeds fan I can't believe I'm saying this but I have more respect for Paul Scholes because he stood by his word and said 'no, i retired years ago, and im retired now' - I don't think it's right that players can be not involved for four years in the friendlies and qualifiers and then suddenly come waltzing into the team to play in the tournament. It's wrong.

But I'm glad Heskey has retired. Means there's a spare space for the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor who is fast as fook. That's what it needs now players like him, Dawson, Bentley and Milner to come in alongside Rooney and the other younger players. At least they are hungry to get involved.
