As title says, I am looking for a light (on resources) media player for video to install on a very old friend's very old laptop. I have downloaded dozens of videos for her to watch (she's housebound) but the stock WMP didn't have any codecs. I did download a codec 'pack' which appeared to install correctly. WMP now plays the videos but with no audio.
Problem is there is no internet at the house, the laptop doesn't have wifi so I can't even tether it to my mobile.
Hoping therefore to find a light (on resources) media player (XP compatible) I can save to a USB stick and install next time I'm there.
Any suggestions?

TIA :)

I've used Media Player Classic for years without any problems. Works with any windows from XP to 10 and probably the lightest media player you can get. Fully open source too.

Plays everything from VCD to Blu-Ray and includes menu's on DVD's, supports many types of subtitles too. Also supports 4k and h265.

Developement was unfortunately stopped last year through.

Home · MPC-HC
